About RIKI 50
The RIKI Walkathon began in 1968 and, in its prime, was a significant event in the city of Saskatoon. That first event attracted 4,000 walkers and raised $41,000 which was a lot of money in 1968. The funds that were raised went towards building some of the first cabins at Camp Easter Seal. This year in 2018 we want to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the continued support of Riversdale Kiwanis Club.
We are aiming to raise $50,000 in order to supply Camp Easter Seal Saskatchewan with needed supplies, equipment, or renovations. It costs approximately $1,500 to send an individual to camp for one week. This would be great support for an amazing summer!
All we ask is that if you are someone wanting to help out our cause, you would raise $200 in pledges before our walk date of June 9th, 2018. All participants will be able to join us at Pike Lake - the original destination of 1968 - and be a part of history as we take a one hour walk of the park together. Registration will be open from 10 am onwards, and the walk itself will start at 11 am. Afterwards, we welcome you to an awards presentation and BBQ beginning at about 12:30. As a participant that raises the $200 minimum, your vehicle entrance into Pike Lake is also covered.
As a School, there are team options available under the registration so that all your students that participate can track where they are at and also receive donations from family online. We have made things as easy as possible and are looking to award the school that raises the most over a $1,000 minimum a cash prize of $1,000. Second place over the minimum receives $500.
There will also be a 50th anniversary Red Holder award for a special individual or team that raises the most for the walkathon.
